ISSS World has been launched as the next generation of the ISSS web site, in late May and early June.
The ISSS web site has accumulated a lot of content since its founding in 1997 by Tom Mandel. A major redesign of the web site took place in the period from late 2003 to early 2004. That web site was still designed mostly as a read-only website, with the notable exceptions of the wiki (ProjectsISSS) and forum (ForumsISSS).
This new web site, ISSS World, is based on an open-source content management system called Drupal. This is a truly interactive environment, where multiple people can have userids, and edit content concurrently.
The motivation for moving to Drupal was largely due to the desire to have online conference registrations and membership renewals. These historically have been paper-intensive activities borne by our VP of Administration, Jennifer Wilby. With a fully-interactive web content management system, we hope to relieve, if not dissolve, some of that work effort.
That being said, updating the web site is like "changing the engine of an airplane while it's in flight". There will be a myriad of details that will be changed as we go along. Please be patient with us.
This web site is intended primarily for members of the ISSS, but participation is not strictly limited to members. If you're interested in online participation, you can fill out a profile and request a userid. (We're validating userid requests to preclude spammers). If you like what you see, maybe you'll join us at one of our annual meetings, when we're at a location of interest to you. (We seem to take the "international" in our name, seriously!)
Welcome to the new ISSS World.
