|Time:||7am to 9am|
The Image, Today
In 1956, Kenneth Boulding proposed a new discipline: eiconics, the study of the image. In this talk, I trace a history of imagistic writings, examining key texts for their analysis of dimensionalities, depictions of dynamics, and use of rhetorical modes. Today, although there is no discipline devoted to eiconics, images of imaginaries are still with us -- and as relevant as ever. To discuss images is to review macrohistorical narratives and sense for anticipatory feedforwards. To discuss images is also to explore cosmological questions: what it means to be alive and to be human, in the experience of time and place.
