Abstract

The laws of chaos have been with us for decades, but they are the least understood part of science. This is a pity because they show up in physical systems, chemical systems and biological systems, so they must be part of any link. Chaos is not emergent, and it is as fundamental to the functioning of the universe as quantum mechanics and classical mechanics.

Six years ago the mathematical link between chaos and physics was found and it has provided a periodic repeating pattern which sits at the base of all natural systems.

Here is a prediction from Brian Cox which has now been fulfilled.

"There is a mystery at the heart of science, for which as yet we have no explanation, that is this universe is simple. Underlying all the astonishing complexity appears to be a magnificent simplicity and no where is that more obvious then in the construction of the elements."

The simplicity can now be revealed in particle physics, astronomy, genetics, biology, music, arithmetic, geometry and all other fields of science.

Human understanding of nature can now be rebuilt upon common foundations which show that all university departments are indeed studying the same matter.

P A writes the following Bio about himself:

Thirty years ago I was working on the problem of turbulence inside engines and was shocked to find that turbulence is not explained by any physics. An insects wing is not an aerofoil, it is completely flat, so it cannot fly according to the laws of physics.

I began to realise that we were looking at the parts of science in a monotheistic Western manner, so I went to live in Asia to learn to think in paradoxes. Here I met Professor Gideon Lowy who helped to build a sensible description of nature. If history is any guide there is always a sensible answer to problems, and our biggest enemy in getting to truth is the way our brains work. Half the brain seeks tradition culture and norms, no matter how illogical they are.
Kind regards P A Cook

Dialogic Design Science: A powerful sense-making and action-taking tool
Yiannis Laouris
Future Worlds Center
The exponentially increasing rate of change in all processes around us, combined with the rapidly growing complexity of sociotechnical problems, makes the need for the effective management of large-scale systems an acute emergency. We argue that, in the foreseeable future, neither crowdsourcing (i.e., distributed, parallel processing) or direct democracy nor research that aims to help us humans manage or significantly increase our biological intellectual capacity will allow any single human to tackle alone the complex challenges faced today. Furthermore, we lack sufficient scientifically or empirically validated tools or methodologies to assist large groups of individuals in utilizing their collective intelligence and wisdom. To make sense of and manage the complexity of our world, we rely enormously on computers. Computers can collect, analyze and present data in forms that help us make sense of the world. However, as the singularity is approaching, we ought to accentuate the difference between intelligence and wisdom, between a solution that is optimal and a solution that serves us to sustain whatever makes us humans. In this presentation, the author will exemplify why and how the science of dialogic design and its co-laboratories of democracy process can be utilized to engage diverse stakeholders (i.e., people from all walks of life) in authentic, highly democratic dialogues. The most outstanding contribution of this branch of systems science is that the transition from the cognitive part (making sense and envisioning solutions) to taking action happens automatically. Participants are always willing to assume some kind of responsibility and take action.

Bill Smith and others on Concepts, Simplicity and Practice
Wednesday, December 14th, 2022, 3am at Zoom
Join us this Wednesday:December 14th for a talk by Bill Smith and others on Concepts, Simplicity and Practice

Bill writes:
Since Corvallis, Peter, I and Gary’s colleagues have been working on systems integration. As successful as this has been we still have questions about its complexity and commenters ask us “What do I do with all of this?”
Work we are doing at SIEL suggested that integration may not be a powerful enough concept. So we have been going back to the origin of systems, even back to the first system of systems Lao Tzu’s Tao Te Ching. We wanted to look afresh at systems in their simplest most foundational forms of relationships. We sought a way that would honor and transcend our differences especially those that block holistic inclusion of difference as emphasized by Roelien’s Presidency. We were searching for concepts that would honor the concepts of wholeness and oneness to which we added (partly with tongue in cheek) the concept of “partness”. We wanted to demonstrate, in more than words, the truth that the whole is in every part and every part is a whole. We found that this could not be done in less than five dimensions and our efforts at integration were mainly three and four-dimensional in nature.  The concept of coherence seems better able to encompass the five or more dimensions of living systems. e.
The recent video sessions on systems concepts has been invaluable. Roberts Holism SIG is really getting somewhere in creating a simpler more useable concept of Wholeness and Oneness. As I was preparing the promised 20 min session on system concepts the theme of simplicity came racing up and I realized that the presentation would be much more practical if wrapped in the ideal of simplicity.  I also realized that we couldn’t deal with wholeness and systems without taking into account the wholeness of time, past, present, future and the dimensions beyond. So I envision:
1.       The Past - Alexander giving a view of how the essence of our ideas has been around since the beginning of ISSS and was embodied in the three key principles of his Presidency.
2.       The Present - In takin over Alexander’s SIG I continued with those foundational principles. The ability to follow them has been greatly enhanced by Roelien’s, inclusive perspective, corresponding choice of topics and mode of facilitating. So I will present where we are now in establishing a base of stem-system relationships capable of morphing into systems wholeness
a.       How we learned to use  a two dimensional, 3 x 3 matrix to express five dimensions of system relationships which gives us the requisite variety to cover relationships between any level and type of purposeful system (more than a quadrillion)
b.       How anyone can use such a 5-D stem to discover, frame and explore functions generated by their own models.
c.       How, in practice, we can use the 5-D matrix to explore emergent ideal states, against naturally existing states, and suggest improvements that express the values of designers, participants and users.
3.       The future – Michele’s take on the past, the present and how she sees opportunities and constraints that trigger and encompass her thinking.
